There’s just one problem.

Everybody had the exact same idea.

So, when you look at GMAT test takers (a proxy that shows you how many people are pursuing their MBA’s) you see a glut of MBA’s are about to hit the market. This flood of MBA’s makes the value of the degree go down.

The problems of the MBA do not stop here. There is also the matter of the reputation of the MBA. Back in the 1960’s and 1970’s when MBA’s were rare, sure, they had a good reputation and why not? Back then, very few people pursued advanced degrees. But as more and more schools started offering MBA programs and more and more people started to avail themselves of the opportunity, the quality and caliber of the average MBA went down. And it wasn’t without consequences. If you look at every major economic crisis we’ve had, you will see MBA’s were right there at the top of it, if not pushing it along.
